ASWCD Commissioners, Associate Commissioners, and our Aiken NRCS District Conservationist represented Aiken Soil and Water Conservation District at the 2018 Joint Partnership Conference on February 26, 27, and 28th. Partners from South Carolina Association of Conservation Districts, South Carolina Conservation District Employees Association, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and the South Carolina Natural Resource Conservation Service met in Columbia to discuss natural resources in our state. The theme this year was promoting our South Carolina grown products and our producers. In light of several controversial issues concerning South Carolina agriculture, event organizers lined up knowledgeable professionals that provided accurate information to better prepare us to intelligibly discuss these issues with the public.
Our very own Associate Commissioner, Jeremy Walther presented to the group during the opening general session. He spoke about sustainable agriculture practices used on his operation in Windsor, SC. Another focus of the conference was learning about the status of our state water plan and the current groundwater assessment from SCDNR Chief Hydrologist, Joe Gellici and SC DHEC's Rob Devlin.
